| The Hotel Chatham was
built on the site of present 4th fairway of the Eastward Ho Country Club.
Owned by Marcellus Eldredge, H. Fisher Eldredge (Marcellus’s brother),
and Eban Jordan (founder of the Jordan Marsh store), it opened in 1890
and closed in 1894. The hotel contained 30,000 feet of luxurious guest
facilities. Its early demise appears to be due to its distance from town
and the changing finances of tourist trade in Chatham.
