Valentine’s Tea

Monday, February 13th,  2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
at the Atwood House Museum

We have a unique and exciting way for you to spend Valentine’s Day- come on over to the Atwood House Museum to enjoy chocolate painting demonstrations, displays of Sailor’s Valentines, Nantucket Baskets, and dollhouse miniatures while sipping tea and nibbling treats!

Admission: Members: $8;   Non-members: $10

Chocolate Painting

Have you ever heard of anyone painting with chocolate? Sounds like a delicious medium to us! Local artist Bill Maloney will be joining us to do chocolate painting demonstrations from 2-4 p.m. For more information on how Bill got into painting in chocolate, you can read this article published about him in the Cape Cod times. Mr. Maloney is a local artist who creates beautiful scenic oil paintings (example on the left). To view more of his work or to look up his upcoming shows, please visit his website.

Displays: Sailor’s Valentines and Nantucket Baskets

There will also be a display of beautifully crafted sailor’s Valentines and Nantucket Baskets on display in our Sea Captain’s Gallery. Visitors will be able to admire the detail and loveliness of the objects up close- and sign up for a workshop to create their own! In May, the Atwood House Museum will host two popular adult crafting workshops available only to members. Guests can sign up to make a beautiful Sailor’s Valentines under the tutelage of artist Sandy Moran (recently featured on PBS for her exquisite work!) or put your name down to create a gorgeous Nantucket basket with Kyle James, who is well-known in New England for her basket work. Both workshops utilize the finest supplies and, even better, they’re fun!

Dollhouse Miniatures

Two of our extremely talented volunteers make dollhouse miniatures that we’d like to share with you! Mary Ann Gray and Florine Myer will bring in a few examples of their work for visitors to examine and enjoy.
