This room currently displays the special memorial exhibit The Raptor’s Eye: The Natural World of Robert Verity Clem. Read more about it on the dedicated page about this exhibit. A selection of Mr. Clem's paintings are on display, as well as artifacts from his studio and a model of his boat. This special exhibit is co-sponsored by the Chatham Conservation Foundation. The Maritime Gallery normally displays paintings of ships and shipmasters, as well as examples of the nautical equipment used on their voyages. Logs and journals offer insight on the long sea journeys so many men in Chatham took. Of special interest is a beautiful 19th century sailor’s valentine brought back to Chatham by one of its sea captains. |
